FAQ

I’m a veteran seeking VA benefits, how can an evaluation help?

We perform psychological evaluations for individuals who are applying for, or have been denied, VA benefits. Nexus Mental Health Evaluations and Independent Mental Disorder and PTSD Disability Evaluations for the VA are important in establishing the connection between a veteran’s mental health condition and their military service, and can help access the benefits and care you need. We will work with you to provide a comprehensive and fair assessment that meet the specific requirements of the VA and our goal is to give veterans the care and support they need to receive services they deserve.

What are Immigration Psychological Evaluations?

An Immigration psychological evaluation is a professional assessment of mental health and capacity of an individual seeking to immigrate to the United States. Evaluations help immigration courts rule if a person should remain in the United States by documenting mental health as well as the possible effects of deportation on the applicant and their family.

Why Do I Need an Immigration Evaluation?

Those seeking asylum, VAWA and hardship cases have a much higher success rate when an attorney presents a psychological evaluation to the court compared to cases without them. Your immigration attorney can refer you, and possibly your family, for an evaluation.

Can Any Therapist Perform an Evaluation?

Most evaluations must be completed by a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Bizzell and her team are licensed clinical psychologists in Texas, specializing in mental health and PTSD independent disability evaluations, N-648, immigration and VAWA evaluations.

What is the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)?

The VAWA protects applicants, tenants, and certain HUD program participants from being evicted, denied housing assistance, or terminated from housing assistance based on acts of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking against them. We will create a safe and compassionate space as we evaluate a client’s scope of abuse, whether it’s physical or verbal (including sexual), and the toll it has taken emotionally and psychologically. We provide documentation in a clear and concise way for presentation in immigration court.

Do I need an N-648 Immigration Evaluation?

Those who have a mental impairment or developmental disability that prevents them from completing the English and civics testing requirements for naturalization may be eligible for an exemption. An evaluation from a licensed clinician is needed to seek qualification for the N-648 exemption.
